First, I have 2 accounts on my credit reports that were settled. I called the original creditors and they both say the balance is $0. I have disputed the info more than once in writing along with proof of settlement and asked them to update the accounts. They keep sending me back a letter stating the accounts were verified and remains. What can I do?

Second, I settled on a different account thru RMA and I think they sold the balance to another agency as it is showing on my report with a balance. How do I take care of this?

    Thanks!

I am trying to buy a house and my loan consultant said I needed to clear up the debts, so I settled.

Do they have the legal right to sell an account and collect balance on an account that was settled in full?

Yep they do it all the time.
You can't just throw money at the dings on your credit and make them go away.
When you pay it's be shrewd or be screwed.
