    Hi there!

My mom is also trying to clean up her credit. Among various issues she has is:

She got a personal loan thru CITI Financial. I believe it was for 5K. She always makes her payment on time. However, this loan is being reported twice on her CR, each with a different balance. To rectify this, should she contact the OC directly, or first dispute it with the CRA? Thanks a lot!

Are they both showing up as positive accounts? How far off are the balances?

    I would inquire with Citi:

    Credit Bureau Disputes
    P.O. Box 6241
    Sioux Falls, SD 57117
    605-330-6780 fax

    Mindcrime,

I'm not sure if they are both positive. The balance on the duplicate account is something li8ke $4800, when the real balance is closer to $3000. I was thinking that this is really screwing with her ratios (along with the $45000 incorrect foreclosure...)

I just wanted to see where the experts thought we should start.

The reason I ask is because if they are both positive accounts, and if the balances were somewhat in proportion with each other, then I would have sugested you leave them be, because it would appear to potential creditors that your mom has two open positive installment loans and that she is a good credit risk (no lates)

I suggest you check to see if they're both positive first. If one is, and one is not, dispute the one that has the lates. If they are both positive, and you really feel the balance is hurting her ratio's, then just dispute the higher balance line as "duplicate" through the CRA's. No need to get the OC involved just yet.

Also by disputing any portion of a positive account you run the risk of the CRA deleting it...it has happened

Yes I do. Just don't put a certain banging tool on the end of the MC, and I'll be happy. :)
