Hi, now that I'm out of the tedious mortgage process I can apply for credit. Yea! I'm looking for a low rate credit card with a decent limit. Right now, I have Amex and Discover with interest rates of 12.99 and 9.99 (promo). I don't usually carry a balance, but we need to buy some furniture and I will probably have to carry it over for six months. And Amex's 12.99% is too high and Discover's credit limit stinks (I couldn't even buy a sofa with that limit, much less furnish a house). Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would recommend a bofa gold or platinum 9.9% fixed rate card. I don't think they are as hard to get as the CapOne Platinum card and I think the minimum limit is $5,000.

Citibank - coupon ads for 0% apr for 9 months and a single digit go to rate...

Bof A, as Steve mentioned, for 8.9 or 9.9 fixed rate for purchases...

Generations, if you have a score of 730+, for 9.9% and huge hidden credit line...

Simmons Bank from Arkansas (or that other bank from Arkansas) at 7.9% fixed...

    And last, but not least...

Providian - lol! - if you want to try for their superprime 7.9% fixed... (you could tell us how serious they are about expanding in to the superprime market. :)...

    Good luck, Dani...

    Marci,

You mentioned Generations do they not report to the credit bureaus? If so, that would be great. I have enough reporting and I would love to have an account that I could pay it off when I felt like it instead of having to worry about my credit ratios every month. Does anyone have a website or phone # where I could find out more information?

    Thanks,

    Dani

You can apply online at the website. When you are approved, the initial credit line may be low, but the "sky is the limit" if you choose to BT from another card. They'll increase your limit by 10K+ if you BT that much.

They do not report on purpose and don't intend to anytime in the near future.

You will have to send in a pay stub to prove income.

You don't need a 730+ score to get 9.9 with generations either. My TU disclosed score was 703 (Generations pulled TU when they approved me). I got 9.9%

Another great thing about generations is that the apr for cash advances is the same as for purchases, and the cash advance fee is only $2 no matter how much you advance. Say you want to buy something from someone who doesn't take credit cards, you can just do a cash advance for a $2 fee.

Thanks, the other. Your input helped me make a decision. I'll try applying tonight. Fingers crossed.

    Dani,

They do require you to fax a paystub.
Approval is not instant, but they should send you an e-mail within a day or two, and they call too so that they can request the paystub.

ETHAN ALLEN has 2.9% for 1 year, then 7.9% go to,

good deal if you can get the stuff on sale too.

The account is administered through MBNA.

    Good Shopping!!

    hr,

I have Blue. The credit limit is good, but the interest rate is a little high to be putting big purchases on it. I was thinking about Juniper, but I wasn't quite sure if I could qualify. Their standards are pretty high.

What about Bank Of America fixed rate 9.9% Platinium Visa/Mastercard? It stay at fixed rate 9.9% as long as the account is in good standing.
