Two major derogatory credit items showed up on my credit report from experian that are 14 and 15 years old. I disputed them as too old. Today an alert came on my credit report from experian with the same two same items as major derogatory. I called the company and they told me they agree they should not be on my credit report because there was nothing active since 1996. I told them that I would like them removed and they said they did not report it to the credit agency. On the credit report it says they did and also their phone number. Experian is telling me to tell them to have it removed and the company is telling me to tell Experian to have it removed. I was in the middle of a mortgage when this showed up and stopped the deal. I don't know what to do. I can't believe they can do this. I called the FTC and they said it is illegal for those to be on the report because it is past seven years. I asked the company if they didn't report it who did but they had no answer. What can I do?

Is this a major creditor or a small one? If it is a major one they have automed means to remove items from your reports rather quickly (a few days). Some smaller creditors have this option but all large ones do. They will do this if it truely is their mistake. Your other options is to demand a letter stating of its removal. Get the letter and fax it to all bureaus reporting.
