I have a federal student loan that matured while I was out of work, and couldn't afford to pay. I asked and got the deferment forms, but I didn't send it in on time.

I sent the forms in finally, and it was approved for the period I was out of work. I checked my credit reports, and it shows me as being 90 days late. These are the same months for which I had the deferment.

90 days late I know is very bad, and it dropped my score considerably. Is there anything I can do? I have continued paying ever since my 3 months off has been up, and I haven't missed a payment. How can I dispute this? Do I dispute it with the agencies, or talk directly with the bank?

I'm no expert on federal loans, but I would dispute ANYTHING with the CRA's...that is your right. I personally have had some pretty good luck with online disputing, but other people swear by snail mail.

    Whatever you do, good luck!
