Ever since I started reading this board, I feel that I have become more empowered. I have had some small sucess myself, which I credit to this board and it's members. I feel that I not able to do this for my friend but am wanting to help her with her credit. This is her situation. She filed BK perhaps 2 years ago. This gave her a clean slate and she overextended herself. The BK was due to medical problems. She now finds herself not able to pay some bills and collections are calling. She also said that collections are calling about some accounts that were in the BK. I have read that this happens, but was under the impression that once you filed BK, you were done with it. She is afraid to pull her credit report, due to the BK. I am sure I can help her on these collection calls she is getting, but don;t have a clue on what to say to her about the BK accounts or even how to dispute these off her credit reports. So besides asking that she get all three reports and disputing current collections, how do I suggest these things for BK? Thanks
I'm not sure BUT... I really think that she needs to go back to the lawyer and let s/he know about the CA STILL calling her.
If the accounts were included in her BK then she should just tell the CA's that when they call. It's that simple. They will probably ask for her attorney's name and then she's done with it. The CA will call the attorney and verify everything. They She really needs to get her report. Then she can dispute the stuff that should say "included in BK." Kim
It is very hard to help someone else if they don't want to help themselves. If I were here, I would do the following: One: Change my phone number and not give it out to businesses. Two: Get all three credit reports and dispute as necessary to get the reports to where they should be. You would be surprised just how much information ends up reported incorrectly after a BK. Three: Get 1 or 2 secured Visa cards. To rebuild credit.
