Where are the most powerful places to report ID theft? Yes, I know the standard ones like file a police report which has already been done but that don't seem to be much help even if you have some facts about the thief. If you can't actually point them to the criminal they won't do anything at all. Even if you have the correct address of the criminal and you can prove that the thief lives at a specific address and has lived there for at least 8 or 10 years they still won't go do anything because the home is occupied by a family so which family member did the dirty work can't be proven.

So, besides the police and the FTC on line reporting system what other steps can one take to remedy ID theft problems? Does it do any good to report it to the FBI? The actual theft took started about 6 or 7 years ago and continued for about 4 years ending in 2004.

If you beleive the theives used the internet at all in this process, then report to the FBI.

I would also report it to your state police, some states have a task force for this issue.
