I can't search on Risk Management Alternatives so I need some help. I have a CO with Amex, previously with Nationwide Credit. I sent Amex a letter a couple months ago to see if they would take my acct back in house as I have been paying on it through CCCS to Nationwide for a yr and a half. I never heard from them, then CCCS changed creditor from Nationwide to Amex. I got a call today from Gail Buckbinder with RMA. Who is RMA and why did they switch me from one CA to another, I have been paying. She was really nice, not a tacky, nasty CA type of call at all. She talked about settlement. My balance is a little over 4K- she offered almost 3K as settlement in 3 payments over 60 days. I might be able to scrape some funds together, but her offer sucks, no? I cant use the search function to gather data on them so whatever info there is on them would be helpful to me to formulate a plan. Thanks
That is bad news indeed. What sucks even more is the fact that you will pay them and you will end up with all of those collection agencies firmly cemented on your credit report which will really suck. I have to deal with several of their offices at least weekly and usually more often than that. Just today I had to prepare letters for their Las Vegas and Phoenix offices for local people here in Oklahoma City who don't have computers. If I remember right there were a couple more on Saturday. What I think yoiu need to do is to stop paying them and send them a validation letter just for starters.
I agree with the validation letter as a start. Luckily, Nationwide is not reporting and if I can do anything, I will keep RMA away too. I realllllly need the search to work!! I feel there is a lot of work ahead for me!
The appropriate answer to all collection agency contacts is validation. That is pretty well universally accepted as being the correct response to any first contact by a collector. Do you really expect us to believe that you can't use Yahoo or Google or Dogpile or any one of hundreds of search engines readily available on the internet to find out just about any information on almost any collection agency or whatever other subject you might want to do research on? It really makes no difference whether you can use the one on this message board or not. While good information about RMA might be available on this board if the search function were working properly there isn't likely to be nearly as much info about them here nor on any other message board as there would be using a major search engine.
Well, I disagree with you there Bill, I really wanted the opinions of people from this board on RMA and those who are/have dealt with them. I don't think I can find that information on a google search. Sorry if my asking for some help annoys you, thought that is what this board was for
I was going to try and search the board for RMA information for you, but I keep getting an error. Hopefully someone with experience with them will see your post and respond.
Well, it don't really annoy me at all, but it does seem to me that I may be one of the people around here and I did tell you that I most likely deal with RMA far more than anyone else on this message board. If they were to do anything strange I would probably hear about it in a matter of a day or two at most. I usually have at least 5 or 10 people or more who are dealing with RMA at all times and if any problem arose they would immediately contact me to see what they should do about it. On top of that I am constantly surfing at least 10 or more message boards and forums using at least a half dozen different screen names and email addresses to do so. I also have full access to the privacyguard.com accounts of at least 2 dozen people and can view their entire credit reports at any time I choose to do so and that number is growing daily although I don't usually access their accounts unless they are sitting right here in the office with me at the time I access their accounts and are asking me questions about what they need to do. So I do tend to think that I have about as much information on RMA as anyone else does.
I did a search on RMA for myself a few months ago. I didn't bookmark the search but I took a couple of notes on the company. Here's some of what I wrote down: 1. rarely buys accounts 2. traditionally ignors faxed validation requests 3. owned by equifax (only reports to equifax?) 4. loves to pull hard inquiries 5. "if I dispute something, they see it as a green light to start collecting" 6. doesn't do a good job with date keeping or keeping proper paperwork 7. website: rmainc.net Hope that helps Luke
