I recently disputed the account below (as listed on EXP):

    "Status: Paid/Collection account.
Status Details: This account is scheduled to continue on record until 6-2008.
This item was verified on 7-2003 and remained unchanged.

    Date Opened: 10/1997
    Reported Since: 12/2001
    Date of Status: 12/2001
    Last Reported: 12/2001

    Type: Revolving
    Terms: NA
    Monthly Payment: $0
    Responsibility: Individual
    Credit Limit/Original Amount: $11,320
    High Balance: NA
    Recent Balance: NA
    Recent Payment: NA

    Your statement:
Account information disputed by consumer (Meets requirement of the Fair Credit Reporting Act)

Account History: Collection as of 12-2001"

I am currently holding in my hand a Tax Form 1099-C Cancellation of Debt from the OC showing that the debt was cancelled on 09/25/01. (Which, as a tangent, I might warn those who are settling debt to potentially expect come tax time.)

As you can see above, the account history shows the debt in collection as of 12/2001. Clearly not correct.

How should I proceed at this point? I have already sent the OC a nutcase letter (with no response) and after disputing with the CRAs as "never late" it has come back verified. Should I have disputed as "not mine"? Does it make a difference? Do the CRAs merely verify the specific that you are disputing or do they supposed verify the accuracy of the entire TL?

    Any insights would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

The account status listed above is what came back as verified (essentially unchanged from the pre-dispute status). Not sure if that was clear in my posting.

    Thanks!
