Looking for more advice on a paid Amex CO.

I really hope a few of you can put your heads together and help me with this issue... please! I'm at a loss!

    1) It was paid in a settlement on the 26th of last month and is still showing a balance of between $5,935 and $6,264 on all three of the CRAs. The settlement reads that it will report as Settled/Paid.

    2) What irks me most is that Trans Union has reinserted it. I have searched and found numerous threads and letters dealing with reinsertion and am fine dealing with Trans Union!

    3) Should I be sending a validation letter to Amex, their attorneys, their collection agency, all of the above, none of the above? I'm at a loss as to what to do next!

    4) Finally, if it's going to keep reporting, I prefer it report settled/paid, which makes me want to send a copy of the settlement to the CRAs.

That being said, I also want to get it off the reports at some point, so it's probably a long-term mistake to send anything that would verify this account to the CRAs.

As always, your advice is appreciated!

    Hi,
I guess it may take more than a month for them to report it as settled/paid. I would wait for another month and check again. If it is still there, you may write to amex asking to update the reports.

    Thanks Ganesh!

We're applying for a mortgage in a few weeks, hence the burning desire to see it either update, or go away!

I have done quite a few searches and found info that suggests a goodwill letter is likely the way to go!

    I'll give it a shot!

    Any thoughts from you old-timers?

    Thanks!

I like to always try Goodwill first as you burn that bridge right away if you go at them hard. Plus- it usually works....

Explain the situation, making sure that they know you made good and PAID the CO, that you had a bad time in your life and you are moving past it and improving your situation, and that the CO is getting in the way of your mortgage.

Hopefully you will get the right person and get it taken care of.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Supershawn!

I posted the following to another thread this morning, but it left this thread unanswered! You were right... goodwill (phone call) worked!

I called the Amex Credit Bureau Reporting Unit (Phone: 954-503-3787) this morning. No begging... no threats... no sob stories.... Just a nice lady who said "we'll have the CO removed from all three CRAs and will send out a letter of confirmation!"

I've also got 3 paid COs that I'm having a heck of a time getting removed. They are all around 4-5 years old. Does anybody know of any magic phone numbers for Chase, BofA or MBNA? Anybody else have any success stories with any of these 3?
