I have disputed a TL on all three CRAs and it came off of TU and EQ but EXP refuses to remove it. This is an old apartment debt that my Ex-wife caused after I had already moved out when she defaulted the last payment of her lease. She claimed all credit for the debt but since my name was on the original lease they tagged my credit with the collection. Anyway to make a long story short EXP keeps verifying the collection as "Paid" with a zero balance and after the last dispute they added "Joint Owner" with the ex's name listed on my report. I was hoping to get some suggestions on my next step, like what kind of letter (goodwill or otherwise) should I send the CA to have them remove the tradeline and leave it on my ex's if they so wish. Was the lease renewed by her alone before the period when a payment was not made by her, or was it still the same contract that you had signed, within the period for which you had signed?
We signed the lease together in January, I moved out in June, she then defaulted by leaving in December without paying through January 1. That was 3 years ago. She just paid them off about 2 months ago so she could get a new house and it remains now on my credit for 7+ years from the new DOLA unless I can do something about it.
For one thing, if it went delinquent 3 years ago, then the 7 year period starts then. You have 4 years to go.
The payoff (2 months ago) starts the DOLA over from that date. That is why paying off a debt that hasn't been properly vaildated (unless pay for delete agreement is made) is the absolute last resort. But this was my Ex and she is clueless, she just wanted it off her credit, until I explained to her that it will be there as "Paid" until 2012 which is just as bad if not worse.
