I owed my bank 305 dollars which went to collections when I was 17. In Canada BC the age of majority is 19 and I could not apply for credit until I reached that age. I paid it off when I was 18 and now I'm 19 trying to apply for credit and I'm being denied based on my credit file from equifax having something to do with the bill that went to collections. I recently requested my credit file to see if it says I haven't paid it or its paid off but apparently just saying its paid off doesn't look good either. I don't want to wait until I'm 25 before it is removed, is there anyway I can get it removed because of my age at the time?

Apparently its outstanding meaning it says I havent paid it yet. Its been over a year and this still hasnt been fixed.

Absolutely, here in the US you are not responsible for anything on your creedit report prior to the age of 18. You should beable to call the collection company and state that you were not even 18 when it was reported so how can it be accurate. DO NOT go into detail or admit any fault. Be vague and to the point. Then dispute it with the credit bureaus on the same merit. You can call me if you have any queations on this.
