I recently reviewed my credit reports (Experian, TransUnion and Equifax) and found negative factors on the Equifax showing 30, 60 90+ days late being reported on some accounts. While some have dates, I counted 70 entries that simply said unknown dates. Can I dispute these unknown dates and have them removed from my file? There were no derogs on the other two. MyFico Score is 642 and my Trans Union Score is 732. I am trying to clear up my credit issues in order to obtain a mortgage in 2003. Also how do lenders look at the three reports and decide on which one to judge you on? Last derog was in 1/2000 which was a 30 days cc payment I forgot about. Any Ideas?
All I know, since I am trying for a mortgage now, is that they generally want you to have 12 months clean history and all unpaid collections, chargeoffs, ect paid up. Also, it seems you need a 620 score on your middle report(they throw the high and low score out).
As far as those "unknown lates" on your Equifax report go, dispute them immediately. EQ has been doing this (inserting false late dates) to what is seeming like a growing number of people. I know 70 late pays sounds like a ridiculous amount of items to dispute at once, (we like to dispute between 3 and 5 items at a time as a rule of thumb), however, using that method you'll need over a year to wipe them all out. If you truly were not late that many times, then they should come off with no problems in your first round of disputing.
This is not right. Obviously if you have one higher score there is something wrong with the other 2 reports. Why are they allowed to use incorrect information in making loan decisions?
Have I misinterpreted this? I thought it was best to restrict your disputes to 3-4 accounts not items. If you have ONE account with 100 errors on it, dispute all 100 errors at once. Am I confused? - again? lol
Yes, it's best to dispute between 3 and 5 items per time in most cases, however, in this particular case, with 70 "unknown lates" all placed in their account by EQ, is just not right, and he/she should not have to suffer because of it. If there were say 15-20 "unknown lates" then I'd say okay dispute between 5 and 8 at a time. But with 70, it'll take him/her approx. one year to clear up all these bogus lates. I feel there is no reason for a consumer to have to suffer through a year of "unknown lates". EQ placed them there, now they need to remove them.
