hi all, is it possible to have collection agencies REMOVE accounts from your credit report? I'm talking about TRYING to negotiate payments and requesting removal of accounts.. They do have the power to do that right?? I'm sure it's close to imposible but worth a try right? Has anyone tryed or done this? anyone have any letter suggestions? thanks for any help patrick
You can try, but I'll bet they tell you they can't do that, it's illegal. They are full of crap of course, but they will tell you that anyway. Ask them which law states that it's illegal. Technically, if they were to update the account as paid/never late it would be illegal, but not for them to remove it all together.
thanks very much thats what i figured that they would say they could not do it.....they report negative info in a heartbeat tho huh?? thanks again
Negotiation for deletion has been done many times by members of this board. It can definitely be done. In fact, I have done it. I suggest you use the search at the bottom of the page and look for letters. You most likely will find several that have been used successfully by members here.
Yes, it is definitely possible- i successfully settled for deletion just a few months back (I had to dispute to make them follow through, but they came off without a hitch). But I would start with validation and then work towards negotiations if you have to.
I'm in the process of doing that very thing right now. I have a letter that Bill Bauer helped me with that I think is very good. I'd sent validation letters to the creditors already. One has already removed their account from Equifax. (Its still on Experian and TU, the last time I checked). I am kind of in a very tight time constaint because I need these things to come off in the next 21 days so I can qualify for a mortgage on a house. I didn't want to post the letters unless I got results from them...so I'll hold off. By the way, one of the companies I sent a letter to had already sent me a settlement letter. I offered the same amount they were willing to take with the restrictive endorsement added in. A lot of people will say this doesn't work, etc but there's a lot of people who will say disputing things doesn't work either. I think it's the luck of the draw. Wish me luck because I don't really have anything to lose at this point.
