After I got my parents' credit reports clean, my mother missed a bank statement and forgot to pay her credit card bill. She now has a 30-late (the only derog. on her otherwise prime report) on her BB&T credit card. What would the best strategy to get this off? Should I have her close the account since it seems BB&T would quickly verify any dispute on an open account with them? She has the account under dispute with Eq for having the wrong balance (which I think will now hurt her for a "not mine" dispute) and it has been 19 days so far. If they don't verify (slim chance it seems but the days keep passing) and I can get Eq to remove the account, can BB&T just re-report it later at the next billing cycle and have it re-inserted (after all it still is an open account)? Also, if it is re-reported and reinserted, can they include the 30-late information (e.g. when they report do they report the payment status only for that month or will they report all previous monthly statuses so as to put the late on the report again)?
I'm confused somewhat. She was "30" days late, but is it showing on her report? Was she fully 30 days late or just a few days? If they delete the TL there are certain procedures they have to follow before they reinsert. I have yet to see anyone say that they have followed those procedures.
Sorry about the confusion...she was fully 30 late and it is showing on her reports. Since she thought the payment was made she didn't worry when the next billing statement showed a past due balance (naive perhaps). I was thinking of trying PFB for something of a goodwill deletion. They have been excellent BB&T customers for many years. Any other suggestions??
Goodwill letter for sure. Most companies will do a one time goodwill adustment. I would then dispute with the CRAs if the goodwill doesn't work.
Is it best to try a goodwill letter through PFB or should I send a physical copy to the headquarters? Thanks for all your help...
