    I have been lurking for the past few weeks and now want to ask for help and or opinions. I signed up for Credit expert and got a credit report that shows accounts that I have paid off back in 2000 as still being charge offs I think I goofed here as I started an investigation and was honest and said they had been paid and gave dates should I have just said these aren't mine. I have a ton of questions should I ask them one by one so as not to bore all of you or should I just "let her rip" and blab em all at the same time
    Looking forward to all of your help

    Welcome to the board, Joan.

    I think you did the right thing by being honest, though it's not always a quick fix.

    CreditExpert seems to take as many of the 30 days as possible to investigate. Who was the creditor? Do you have supporting documentation to take it to the next level (validation) if need be?

    If you have other specific questions, ask away but if it'll be a long post, warn us :)

    let her rip

    I have reservations about doing disputes on-line with the built in choices the CRA's offer. In general I think you are better of to write dispute letters. One way of doing disputes is to simply say you are disputing the item and list the account number. This tends to at least start an investigation with Equifax & TransUnion. Experian is pickier and will want a specific fact mentioned to start a dispute.

    There are two in question that I paid off
    one is for bank of america (i have the cancelled check) and the other is discover (paid off by wire transfer from a mortgage company)

    Here is my next question
    I paid off my house in april 97' I have a statement from the mortgage company as being paid off but it is showing up as a negitive account on experian due to late pays what's the answer to this one

    The first 2 you have to wait the 30 days anyway to see what happens. If it doesn't work out, produce your proof & try again.

    For the mortgage, I'd contact the lender & ask them to remove the payment history. That way you don't lose the tradeline entirely which can cost you points. If they want reasons for the lates, give your (sob) story.

    When the 30 days is up and the Credit Bureau does infact see that these debts are paid do they automatically delete them from the report or somehow just change the status. Thank you for all the help you have given me so far

    If they verify as paid, I'm afraid what you will most likely have is a listing that says "Charge off- paid" Not good. Hopefully the creditor won't verify and it will be deleted.
