I just received new Platinum Visa that replaced my Old Platinum Mastercard. Either I called 800-775-1946 or www.bankofamerica.com/activate OR after 30 days my old Platinum Mastercard will be deactivated. I like my old Platinum Visa and Mastercard design and they looked better than the new one.

Now I have two Visas and I missed my old Platinum Mastercard. I requested the minicard for other Platinum Visa and I haven't received it.

    I love my minicard!

But the dilemma that I am having is I want to consolidate my accounts, but I am being told that the old card doesn't qualify for the card because it is an "advantage" account. But, I will lose history if I consolidate to the new card.

    Oh, what to do????

    azur24,

My brother also has a Bank Of America Platinum Mastercard and his account opened since 6/99. They didn't convert his Platinum Mastercard into Platinum Visa. I guess they don't convert all BofA Platinum Mastercard into Platinum Visa. By the way, I have advantage account with them and both of card has 9.9% fixed. From time to time , they stuffed my mail box with 4.25% fixed BT checks with no fee. How long did your minicard came form the mail? I request it about a month ago and they told me theyire going send me whenever the product is available.

I did the same thing when I heard about the minicard. I called and requested it. It isn't available for some reason on advantage accounts. So, what did I do? I applied for a new account to get the minicard. After I was approved for the new account, it took about 5-7 days to arrive.

I love it because I don't have to carry around my purse if I am just running into the store for something quick.

    azur24,

They told me that I will get one after their testing market and I don't know how long to get one. I got my Discover2GO Card last year and it is small and fit into key chain. I like it.

I wanted a Discover card for the cashback and the "To Go", but due to Experian's inability to cooperate, I don't see myself qualifying anytime soon with a lawsuit.

Re: New BofA Platinum Visa Replacem

Ron, I have a BofA Gold and an advantage account too, but my APR is still 14.27%.

Any tips on how to make it 9.9% by letting them know I've been an advantage customer for years?

Does it really have anything to do with it? They try to cover my eyes with soap by telling me that my account had just been unsecured (12/02), etc and that I need to wait until it hit 1 year mark in 04/03.

    Thank for any input.

    damianlr,

I applied for Platinum MC two and half years ago and they apporved for 15.9%. I called their customer service to lower my rate from 15.9% to 12.9% fiixed apr. Last time I called to the retention dept. to lower my rate to 9.9% fixed apr. Two yrs ago, I applied for Platinum Visa and they approved me for $6300 with 9.9% fixed rate. I think it is something both the Advantage account and credit account history. They can see all your accounts with them just like Bankj of America Online. By the way, they stuffed my mail with 4.75% BT no fee checks until paid in full. Both of my BofA credit cards started out Platinum and unsecured.

Yeah, I've had mine for 11 months so from what I'm told I need to wait until my account hit the 1 year mark to get an increase and APR reduction. Maybe then my advantage history will play some role in negotiations.

I went to bofa.com to check if advantage customer gets some kind of APR reduction as a benefit but except loans and lines of credit there is none.

    Thanks Ron.

According to the Advantage accounts bronchure, you get some kind of rate reduction off your credit card rate. Two yrs, I called their customer serivce and I told them I got Advantage Checking accounts. They lower my rate from 12.9% fixed to 9.9% fixed. All of BofA acredit card accounts has 9.9% fixed. I think that they gave the rate based on your credit history and relationship with the bank.

    Thanks Ron!

I just called BofA and told them I was an advantage customer for couple of years now. It did not seem to have any affect on her decision but she DID lower my APR from 15.24% to .... 9.9% FIXED! :))

Oh boy! That's awesome. I appreciate your help so much.

Since I "won" the battle with Associates/Citi, everything seems to be working out WELL.

    damianlr,

You're welcome. Congradulations for lowering your APR for card. Did they give you a Platinum Visa??? By the way, it is the best rate for purchases. Someone told me they got 8.9% fixed from mail offer and I couldn't get them to lower my rate to 8.9%. Pretty soon you probably going to get 4.25% BT no fee checks (until paid off) from the mail.

No, I have Gold Visa. I got my increase in December and she said, they won't be able to give me another until June of this year. I did not let them pull my credit report so I took the lowered APR.

I need couple of more k's for Platinum though ;)

Anyway, I'm very happy. I do not use this card, just been paying off the balance I have (30% of total credit limit.

I'm deciding now if I could get a Amex Starwood card. Decisions, decisions :)

With BoA, is it 6 months before a CL increase or nine months? I seem to recall being told that it was 9 months.

First credit line increase is in 9 months and then every 6 months.

Well, I just got off the phone with Robin and was told my CL was increased from $1000 to $5000! :)

She had to pull hard as I got my last increase of $500 in December.

Having now $5000, can I call and request a Platinum instead of Gold I currently have?

Congratulations! Yes, you can convert to Platinum.

Ron - I just got my new Visa in the mail this week. You're right. It's ugly!

I wonder if I call Robin, if she'll lower my APR down to 8.99%. Retention refuses to budge on it. :-(

    marci, thanks!

You do not like the new look of BofA's VISA?

It kind of seems cool on the website.

Will the account on the credit report stay the same after I upgrade to Platinum or it is going to create an additional entry and mess things up?
