Looks like Citibank now has their own version of the Capital One no telemarketing card. Called the Illumina card. http://www.citibank.com/us/cards/cardserv/illumina/index.htm
I am planning to apply for the Citi silver and gold this weekend so am interested if this is any better. Right now my concern is getting a better rate (mine are terrible) so I would be curious. Just made a very large payment on my Platinum Citi so I should be in good shape with them. Any one have any clue as to whether this is easier or harder to get than the silver and gold?
with the popularity of American Airlines of late, i suggest applying for AA's still you can always convert..
I think it'll be easier this time around. I had five derogs when approved for my existing cards, now I have 3 and LOTS of positives. Citi doesn't seem too touchy over inquiries either. I also applied for the new diamond preferred. I had already called and was told I could not convert my plat. div. select (yep, I did more converting and combining recently) into these. The plain smart card sucks, by the way. I was told I was getting Citi. You and they gave me some plain old smart card. I also decided I had no need for a world card because of its effect on my scores. I am sure Sam will also see what's up. By the way, a Citi supervisor told me there's no hard and fast rule about the number of cards one can carry. She said some have six, others can't get more than 2. She told me that I have a fairly decent chance of getting to hold 3-4, as I make HUGE payments (20-30 times minimum). I have always been able to keep my rate at prime plus 3.99 no matter what card I convert to. PF is the way to do that. The regular reps just recite script-like things. So I doubt the 18.49% rate would be a problem. I'd accept prime plus 7.99 for this. My mission is to ONLY have cards from Citibank, MBNA, and AMEX and retail ones very soon. Or other prime lenders like Chase, BoA, FUSA, etc. I am cancelling Fingerhut soon, as well as Sterling and Orchard. Those cards are crap. Sterling and Orchard won't ever drop the APR, neither are good with increases, and Fingerhut's rate bites, the credit limit sucks, the stuff is too expensive, and the telemarketing calls are on my LAST nerve!
Sam, a supervisor told me that customers are unable to convert any card to Citi. You, illumina, and diamond. So I decided to apply. I already tried that My brother is applying for a couple of cards too. He has no negs. He is deciding if he should apply for student or regular. Any advice? I think he wants to do the conversion/combine AA trick into something like div. plat select, and get either diamond or sony.
There is also another one from Citibank called Citi Diamond Preferred Card and it rewards you such as gift certificate, lowered APR for 12 months, and merchandise by accumulating the points. The websites is : http://www.citibank.com/us/cards/cardserv/diamond/ Ron.
www.planetfeedback.com Citibank always responds to letters typed through there. I have successfully used this method with them and MBNA for cards. If I am denied for my ancient and small derogs, I write a letter through there saying I am a hard working professional, honor student, pay all my current bills, and had XXXX situation that led to the derogs. Please reconsider me for a card, even with a (usually I say $500) small limit. I want to chance to be a proud customer of yours. Anyways, I write something along those lines. I do not believe it would work if you have numerous, recent, and large derogs on the credit reports.
That's not the typical "go to" rate; it's only the highest possible rate, set for people who would otherwise be declined. Saar
