Some of you may already know this, but this was new to me. A guy calls me today from "Capital First" to tell me that they've approved the card I applied for about 4 months ago. I said, "what card? I didn't apply for a card." He said, "oh, it was awhile ago, you probably forgot." So I said, "Hang on, I'll go get my credit reports and look up the inquiry. Who do you pull?" He said, "huh? it's got a 2k limit, and 0% APR FOR LIFE." So I asked, "How much is it going to cost me," and the guy said, "I need to verify some info, and then I'll send you the card and the account agreement. You can cancel within two weeks if you don't like it." I said, "HOW MUCH IS IT GOING TO COST ME." So he said, "You're preapproved for 2000 dollars." I said, "HOW MUCH?" "29 dollars." I said, "is that the only fee?" "Well, no -- but you're preapproved. Here let me get some info." I finally got "$99" out of him, and didn't listen to anymore. What do they think I am, an idiot?

    Good for you.

You should have told him to take the fees out of your credit limit.

You could have really tortured him if you had the time, by continuing to ask him questions.

Yeah, I thought about it. He was too easy a mark.
