While surfing the web, I got a strange pop up add.......Can some one tell me what's up with that? How in the world it is possible to get a NEW CREDIT FILE. Check this out. http://www.mynewcreditfile.com/ Tell me what you guys think? I think it is a scam. Come on, how in living hell can you get a NEW CREDIT FILE with the same SS number?????? ********* dimples1 (((((((((((Someone is always trying to make a dollar)))))))))
Well I am just dying to hear you guys response to this one....HA! Who are they fooling..........NOT ME!
If it were that easy, we could all use Doc's nutcase letter and have perfect credit. At least I could, and it would be for free. Maybe someone will try it and let us know. Ha!Ha! HeatherB
Actually, I think what they do is get you a business tax ID number.. or something like that. Either way, can't imagine why anyone would do it... not only is it illegal, you also won't have a long enough credit history for years (about the same time it'd take for you to fix up your current credit)
It is highly illegal. You will not be using your ss #. They will tell you to apply for E.I.N. (employer Idenfication number) which looks like a ss #. Then they tell you to use that as your ss # which is the illegal part. One little screw up on your part, and they can match you up with your real ss # and then you've got problems with fraud. Don't even consider it.
I purchased the product from this exact website out of curiosity a few months back. It outlines how to use a tax ID, new address, name change to get a new credit file. Totally illegal.
Does anyone have proof it's illegal? Having a tax number is not illegal. I met several lawyers in CA that claim the are loopholes in the law that make it legal as long as you pay as agreed. There are more credit reports than people.
Yeah...just go to the FTC's website. Obtaining a tax ID for the purpose of defrauding creditors is illegal. Puttin it on a credit application in place of your SSN is fraud. http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/credit/creditid.htm
Ask those lawyers to give you a signed, notarized statement that it is legal. See what they have to say then.

I have my own small company where I do consulting and custom software for people (ie. I wrote a website for a chiropractic office and got paid for it), I'm the only employee and I have an EIN. It's not illegal if the number is for an actual business (my own) and I use that EIN to get credit for the business, right? Or do I still need to use my own SS#?
If the EIN is for legitimate purposes, it's not illegal. If you are applying for credit for your company, I think you have to put your company's name as the applicant along with the EIN (I think) on the application. If I'm wrong here, someone will correct me.
Well ... lol I don't recall anyone saying that appllying for and receiving and EIN is illegal. What IS illegal is to put it on an application for consumer credit in the place where it asks for your SSN, in an effort to suppress negative creidt information. They call that loan fraud.
It's only illegal if your trying to conceal credit info. However, the debate is what if the credit info your trying to conceal is inaccurate? What if you've done alll the repair techniques and there are still inaccurate items? I think getting a jury to convict is an uphill battle.
So your thinking is that if you've done some credit repair and there is still some inaccurate tradelines reporting, then it is ok to violate the law and use an EIN for personal credit acquisition? I think you are sadly mistaken in that a jury wouldn't convict. The law is the law. Period. Why don't you try it and we'll see if it works?
I agree with LKH. There is already a measure in place to handle truly inaccurate items - it's called small claims court.
Trust me I wasn't thinking of using this, however it is very interesting to see what people will do to make money. I know it is very illegal. Wooo
This very topic comes up about once a quarter and it's still the most ridiculous notion that anyone would post it or question the legality. The last time this came up the entire thread went alsmot exactly the same way. No it's not illegal to get an EIN for your business and use it for your business. If that was the case, they'd stop issuing them. In response to bypassing inaccurrates by obtaining an EIN (because you've tried everything else), it's like saying, "The government overcharged me taxes so this year, I'm not going to pay taxes". There are definately other ways to get around inaccuracies if the CRAs or OCs don't assist. I am requesting that the person who maintains the FAQ put the issue of EINs in there so we don't have to have another one of these "Is this legal, what do you think" convos. A link to the FTC page along with that post would be appropriate also. Good evening!
