I think you should wait for at least 6 months before applying for a new card (6 months after you got the Cap1 card) so that you will show that you have a good payment history. For people who are just starting out I would recommend getting a Discover card (regular or Platinum) and an MBNA Platinum Plus card. Both of these companies provide good customer service and are not that hard to get for people with a good 6 month history.

Wait 3-4 billing cycles and then try a Providian. That is if they don't send you an offer until then. Then wait again 3-4 billing cycles and try for a Discover.
You said this is your first credit card but do you have previous credit? Is it good? bad?
How you answer will really decide where you go from here.
This is my first card no prior credit at all.
