Hi everyone! There is some great information on these boards! I have a few questions for you experts and I would be the happiest girl alive if I could get some advice I have 2 accounts showing up on my credit report. I bought a car and the financing company sold my account to another agency. both agencies are reporting on the same loan. Can I dispute one? GMAC-$5 charge off, I have a letter from them thanking me for paying off my vehicle and releasing me of all further financial liability. What letter should I send? Should I include said release? I paid MRS (collection agency) to settle 2 Sears accounts. Portfolio Recovery called me about a month later demanding payment for one of the accounts. I faxed them the release of debt letter form MRS. I had to do this about once a month for 4 months. Now I see that there is a charge off from Portfolio Recovery for that Sears account (Equifax only). How do I handle this? I have fax confirmations for every time I sent this debt release letter. Do I include release of debt letter with my next correspondence? The other Sears account is listed on my report as a CO by Sears on Equifax, but on EX and TU listed as "paid in settlement/account charged off". Again, I paid MRS for this account? Do I include release of debt letter from previous CA that received the money? ALSO, it says "$3340 charged off". According to my records, the original balance for BOTH cards was $2800 combined. I think EX and TU are showing only Sears because Sears has combined the account. The $3340 is misleading because I paid MRS $1625 to settle both accounts. This would leave only $1175 "charged off". If it matters the same CA received payment for both Sears accounts. The release of debt for both accounts is on one letter. Same story with a Dillards CO. I have a copy of the canceled check. I can't believe that PAYING my debt would end up being such a hassle 4 years later. Thanks in advance for your help! -Robin
Have you contacted MRS and asked them why other CAs are collecting on accounts you paid and settled with them? Did they own the accounts at the time you settled?
yes, I contacted MRS and they say they have no record of the account. I was asked to send a copy of the settlement letter. I did so, about two weeks later someone from Portfolio called saying that MRS had contacted them and they needed a copy of the release as well. Sent it on several occassions via fax(they kept claiming they didn't get it) and finally sent if CMRRR and they acknowledged payment on the accounts.
