I have gathered up info from a variety of sources, both in person and online, about getting negative items off my credit report via the individual CRA dispute system. Some have said to just dispute as "Not my account" and see if the creditor misses the 30-day deadline for responding. I learned from another person online that I could dispute by claiming "Not my account" as my new address doesn't show up anywhere. I know this because I just signed up on Experian and they had me confirm a recent car loan in order to identify my accounts as all they had were old addresses from 2 years ago. I've got to do something to clean up my credit reports and don't know what else to do, as these negatives are from an ex-spouse that ruined my credit through a business we had together prior to divorcing. I stuck my neck out to save our business but he just trashed it anyway and hurt all of our employees as well as myself. Please advise! Cosmo Topper
I'd start by taking a gander at the "INTRO" links, like PsychDoc's Credit Repair Primer. One bit of personal advice and that is to always be ready to sue. That means that if an account is technically yours, but you think they can't prove it, they might call your bluff. When CRAs and CAs won't budge, you need the big stick of litigation. But you'll lose everytime if your hands aren't clean.
Thanks LB, I actually got to most of those links yesterday. But now the online service at Experian wants to know what my addresses have been for the last 5 years. So it gets trickier than described by Manny over on the other board. Cosmo Topper
