I was referred to this site today and after checking it out...I immediately joined. I am currently unemployed and I had to leave college but I am still in the same "boat". I can't find a job anywhere...and my credit cards are gone in "arrears"-if that makes sense. I can't find a job anywhere and maybe its because of my credit. I am 24 years old and I have not yet finished college; at this rate I'm not sure if I will ever finish. I currently live at home with my mother but I long to have my own place and my own car. I figure I won't be able to do any of this until 10 years from now. I do not want to be 30 something and still living at home because I can't get my own place. My mother pays two of my "bills" but the credit cards and other small debts are out of wack. I recieved priority mail stating they are going to take action against me and I was threatened to go to court..in that case I would have to pay all the court fees which of course I don't have. I have considered filing bankrupt and I talked to a few lawyers but their fees are outrageous. I do have student loans but I deferred them so that I won't default. I would say my total debt is $7,285.00 not counting my student loans-but I have a plan for the student loan situation-that's if I ever finish school. At this rate, I feel there is no hope for me because I can't seem to find a job and I don't have to the resources to relocate anywhere. I probably won't be able to finish my degree either. I will never get an apartment or a car..let alone a house. So, it seems that filing bankrupt is my only option (I can set up a payment plan with one of the lawyers I spoke to)..if there is any other option that I could "possibly" look into..please respond and let me know.
I'll be kind and bump this for you, someone will respond. There are better options and if I wasn't waiting in the airport right now for my plane, I'd explain them. If no one replies, I'll be back tomorrow.
if you could also be more specific about your debts, How much are they, how far behind on the payments are you, have they been charged off and placed with Collection agencies yet?, when was the last payment made to them, and finally what state are you in. JD

Re: Re: New member seeking advice The debts total out to be close to $8,000. I have two credit cards that are past due, one loan, and a couple of department store charge cards. The two credit cards are a year behind in payments. Yes, I have gotten collection agency/letters from lawyers in the mail. I live in MS. Thanks for helping me.
Re: Re: New member seeking advice Well first off you want to hold off on bankruptcy until the very last moment it should be considered as a absolute last resort, and good news your not even close to that point yet. also you should keep in mind that BK wont get rid of your student loans, basically from what i understand they never go away until you pay them. Stop paying any money immediately to any collection agencies, its not going to get you very far, instead what you should doing is sending off a DV letter to the CA's and also include limited c&d so they stop calling. basically you can deal with this your self but you have to do some homework (lots of it) here on creditnet. start off by reading the hall of fame post at the top of the forum, especially pay close attention to Butchâ??s what is validation. I really would doubt the CA filing a lawsuit on you basically because A. you are unemployed and B. your not a home owner therefore they really have nothing to gain from doing so. Just spend as much time as you can reading and learning any information on this board. Good luck JD P.S. also check out creditboards.com & creditinfocenter.com they are 2 similar sites to this one.
Re: Re: New member seeking advice Thanks for the reply. I already know a little something about writing the Collection Agencies. I will research the old posts on this website. As far as my student loans, they are currently deferred so I won't have to worry about making payments on them right now. It's the credit cards and personal loans that are my problem. I will do more research on this site. Do you have any more advice?
