I have the secure Optima and had called this a.m to ask a question and while I had rep on phone, I inquired abou the new scure card and she said, "We have a new secure card coming out first ofyear(2001) with a American Express secure card called,TheAmerican EXpress and will be offered by request(for app).Secure deposit will be 200.00 and after 6 months of review and acc't is in good standing(NO late FEES,over limit fees.etc....) will be converted to unsecure regular American EXpree.No color name card(blue,gold,etc..). # is 1.800.962.7227. Thought I would pass info on to others.

OK, Now I'm confused I called the Amex number you gave and asked about the secured card. I was told to call the number for Blue, and the rep said the secured Optima was still available. I told her that it was my understanding that it had been discontinued, but she said that was not the case and offered to send an app for the secured Optima. She didn't mention anything about the card you were told about. I guess the bottom line is that Amex reps are confused and our best bet is wait for an official announcement from Amex concerning this new secured card.
RE: OK, Now I'm confused I am also as I called the Number and was told no official word had come yet. I then called Centurian Bank, and was told the same, and furthermore the CSR told me that they are not even looking at the first of 2001, BUT NOW IT'S SOMETIME IN 2001!

I Called today @ amex spoke with 2 diffrent rep and they dont have any clue about this new amex card they also confirm this with marketing department this must be a rumor...
