    I have a couple questions....

Lets just say, that I know someone who knows someone who is someone that can get things....

Lets say I were to aqcuire a new social security number....

what would the implications be? (other than the usual jail and fraud answers)

how would I not get caught?

    Is it possible?

How bad of an idea is it?

There are going to be records of your old and new number that can be cross-referenced. Your employer for one, SSN office for another. Or are you going to run with two numbers, one for those that know your old one, and another number for new acquantaintances? Even my employers send my SSN to my bank with automatic payroll deposit.

The banks have new regulations stating that they must verify all info, now that we have the terrorist threat (sounds like an excuse to me.)

In my state, Washington, there is a web page stating that a new law was passed that cross-references my drivers license with the SSN office.

Would you change your name, address and DOB at the same time? Your CR goes on more than just your SSN.

    Just some random thoughts.

Oh, and how can you say "other than the usual jail and fraud answers"... can you REALLY wave those away so easily?

to my knowledge the ss administration runs a tight ship their are a very RARE LIMITED exceptions that a new ss# can be issued LEGALLY

if you keep the same identity it can cross reference and cause complications, and obtaining a new identity can be difficult if its done LEGALLY.

I live in CA and this state has required your social security number when they issue a drivers license for many years.

in some states a drivers license is your actual ss# which you DL can be changed to another # but they won't issue a new ss# even if you were an Id theft victim.

I have heard of credit repair places offering that for a fee, be very careful that is a federal offense and I wouldn't chance the penalty involved.

if your credit is that bad you may want to consider a BK and wipe it out and start all over.

Are you referring maybe to a TIN issued by the Internal Revenue Service for businesses, etc? There were some discussions here in the past on using a TIN number in place of SSN to create new identity/ credit history.

Well one way to get a new SSN legally is if you are in the Witness Protection Program! (LOL). I don't know about your way!

Before you think about getting a new social security number, you need to ask yourself if you like plastic or metal?

    That is as in handcuffs.

Getting a new SS# is HIGHLY ILLEGAL unless you are in the Federal Witness Protection Program
