My husband is new to this country. He just received his SS#. Now we are trying to help him establish credit. I have decent credit,. I don't want to put him as an authorized user on my accounts. I own a home, and hopefully in the future we will buy another using his credit and income. Were do I start?
Why don't you want to make him an AU? This is by and far probably the easiest way to establish a history. You don't HAVE to give him a card - his history will change as yours does.
That is correct. If you have good credit. you should put him as an authorized of a couples of your best cards. you do not need to tell him about or give a card. Your own history of that card will be reflected in his own cr report. he will begin to receive pre-approved cards in a coupple of months. my suggestion to him then is to apply only for good banks(or offers) and a couple of big store cards like Macys or target. and dont apply too many, try to have low inquires.
I put my mother on as an AU over 3 months ago and it still doesn't show on her credit. Any suggestions?
Somewhere here there was a post discussing which CC show on the AU's CR and which do not. Perhaps a search on AU would find that post. Good luck.
What if I put him say on my Kays card. He then in turns get a credit card, but messess up his credit on that card. Would that affect my credit.
When you add a spouse ( or anyone ) as an AU the bill still comes to you. If they mess up take them off. I did this last year with a department store card that had a 20 year perfect history. My husbands credit took a huge increase. I never even gave him the card.
I just called Kay jewelers acct and they told me that if i added him on as a AU it did not report to the CA. I would need to go into the store and try and get a joint account.
