Hi--I am new here and am learning alot from the boards, but all this reading is getting me a little confused. Here is the situation-- 1. I filed bankruptcy ch.7 in May 2000, discharged in August 2000. The accounts that were filed in my bk are still showing as charge offs and collection accounts and the c.a. and o.c are still reporting the accounts as late and derogatory every month as of December 2002. Isn't this against the law? What steps should I take? 2. I am trying to get a house and my credit is all messed up, I want to get my score up, so should I dispute the "charge-off" and c.a accounts (that are suppose to be included in bk as "not-mine"---or what? 3. Should I dispute everything (about 5 charge-off accounts and 3-4 collection accounts) as not mine, on ONE dispute letter, or do a few at a time? Thanks for your help in advance!!!!! Denise
This is mostly just to bump your question to the top of the page, so someone else can answer. I know nothing about bankruptcies. But I will add that when you making disputes to the the CRAs, you can dispute more than one item per letter. Most people say around 4-5 is a safe amount. Too many disputes in one letter and you run the risk of the CRA labeling your disputes as "frivolous." peace, delilah
I would recommend limiting any credit bureau disputes to no more than 3 at a time, waiting until you get those 3 resolved one way or the other before starting any more of them. Many people do send in more and get away with it but I just happen to think its much better to go at it a bit more slowly. Just my personal feelings in the matter.
I somewhat agree with what delilah said. If you do too many, you may get blanket verification...that is...they verify everything becasue they are just tired or for whatever reason. BUT...you can get blanket deletions as well. When I disputed several things at one 11-13), most of them were deleted. When I did 1 r 2, they were verified. Now, I know this could have just been ccoincidence, so...use your judgement.
I have only been doing this for about 2 months, so i would not feel comfortable giving you advice. But i will tell you what i have done so far. 1. I got seperate reports from all three CRA'S. 2. I got organized, making a list of what i was going to dispute and how. 3. I first disputed everything that didnt say included in bankruptcy as "not mine". I am starting to see some results i have gotten 3 of the 5 collection accounts deleted of my EQ report. Still waiting on the other two. As far as how many to dispute. On my first round of disputes i disputed between 6 - 12 items at once. I hope this helps...... Oh yea my chapter 7 was discharged in oct. 2002...
handr-- when you deleted 6-12, did you put them all as "not-mine"--or did you have a combination of other reasons. The reason I'm asking is because all of mine on my letter are stated as "I have never done business with the company". And also, did you type up your own letter or did you just use one of the sample letters on the site? Thanks!! Denise
I did not get 6- 12 deletions, I was saying that is how may i dsputed at one time. I have done all of my disputes on-line. Just check the box "not mine".
Nothing so powerful as a few well told lies to get done whatever our hearts desire or tickles our fancy. Never mind what the cosequences might actually turn out to be somewhere down the road. Lets all just do things the easy way. Don't take much imagination to come up wth a new lie if the old one didn't work.
can someone help me with the exact procedure of how to go about disputing my accounts? ****Here is the deal!! Can anyone tell me if this letter is ok? This is everything that is bad on my credit report. (Alot huh?) THe 2 Onyx ones should have been included in my bankruptcy/the OSI collection and key credit services as well!!! They are all still showing as charged off/the Onxy one is showing up as involuntary reposession. I filed bk in May 2000 and they conveniently came and took it in June 2000-My bk was discharged in August 2000. Well, I am as green as a gourd and about as dumb as a fencepost when it comes to credit bureus. I rarely ever have anything to do with them. Be that as it may, your claims that you never opened any accouts nor did any business with those collection agencies isn't going to get you anywhere in my opinon. After all, who is going to waltz into a collection agency and open up a new account with them. Even a complete moron wouldn't do that. You probably would if you were a creditor and wanted them to collect debts for you but then you wouldn't be disputing them off your credit bureau if that were the case, now would you? And although I hate to sound rude but what good is all that yik-yak at the bottom going to do you? Especially after you just told them you never opened an account with a collecion agency. Might think about changing those statements and maybe getting rid of most if not all of the yik-yak at the bottom.
Re: Re: New to board-please,please help Any reason you aren't doing the dispute online? Have you gotten all old addresses off your CR? If you are going to write to the CRAs I would make it much simpler. Good luck.
Re: Re: New to board-please,please help thanks for your reply--I think I will do it online--the process seems alot more simpler than writing them a letter
