    Hello Guys and Gals!

First off I just recently paid an account in collections to the collection agency. Still on my credit report it shows the original creditor is reporting me. I do have a receipt from the collections agency for the balance paid in full and was wondering how do I go about getting this off my credit report all together? I read some previous threads from oooooo 6-7 years ago but I'm sure things have changed since then. I do have 2 other negative acct's on my credit report (one in collections, the other is revolving as charged off bad debt) that I am also working on getting deleted off my credit but those have not yet been paid. I'm really bad at writing letters to people and have no idea of how to go about this so thats what brought me here! Any help would be great, if I left anything out I check back regularly so I can add more things if you have questions. Thanks!

Is the OC reporting a charge off for the collection you just paid off? If so, they don't have to remove it just because you paid the CA. You could always try asking very nicely for them to remove the charge off because you took care of it and paid off the CA in full, but it's totally up to them. After all, it was a charge off for them and it still is.

Or, you could dispute through the CRAs and hope they don't respond, but the chances are good that it will get verified.

No the account was not a charge off that was paid, it was still being collected on through the CA but I had moved addresses so they never contacted me. The OC is reporting it on my credit, but I have a receipt from the CA for the full payment. Still should I contact the OC then since they are the ones reporting it?

The other 2 acct's are both CC's, one Citi and the other Chase. The Cititbank card is showing up on my credit report as Citibank on Exp and Trans but reported as Midland (CA) for Eq. The acct is no longer with either of these guys and now rests at an attorney's office. I've been reading that I can try sending a Deletion Upon Payment letter to them to see if they will accept a settlement payment in return to delete this off my credit. I already spoke with them on the phone and they agreed to a verbal settlement amount, I pick the amount and they will decided if they will accept or not. I told them I would call them back with an amount...

The Chase acct is the one that is revolving and reported on all 3 bureaus by Chase but is being collected by Gemini Capital Group. This one is reported as charged off bad debt but I have talked to the CA and was thinking of doing the same Deletion Upon Payment letter as I was with Citibank. Any idea's on this? Is this the right way to go about getting this removed off my credit completely? I need to purchase a new vehicle and money is not an issue, just young and dumb with credit cards is never a good idea n now Im paying for it!

    No problem...welcome to the forum!

If the OC isn't reporting as a charge off, then how are they currently reporting the debt?

Anyway, regardless of how they're reporting, you will need to work through the OC if you want them to change how they're reporting. The CA that you worked with won't be able to do anything about that for you.

In regards to the other negotiations you have going on, don't agree to any type of verbal settlement amounts. Keep your communication in writing and don't cut any checks until everything is well documented. Also, it's important to remember throughout the process that successfully negotiating a PFD with a CA won't automatically remove whatever the OC is reporting. You'll need to deal with them separately as well.

The paid account to the CA is a medical bill, $115 paid to CA back in September, the OC is still reporting it as unpaid/seriously past due. Would this be a case where the Goodwill letter might be my best option since its already paid? Then possibly the nutcase if they don't respond to the Goodwill?

And as far as the credit card accounts, I figured that I would probably have to deal with both of them since the OC is Chase and Citi but they sold the debt off to other agencies... I just don't know how to go about getting this off my credit having to deal with both people, do i send the PFD to the CA and then cc: the OC to kinda let them know what the plan is? I just don't wanna pay anything quite yet if I'm not going to get the outcome that I want. A Paid account is just as bad as a Nonpaid account on my credit as far as I can tell from all the reading...

And another thing, both credit cards were back from 2004 when I started to accrue this debt. Under the Citibank debt it says on my credit report "Date Open - 05-2009" on my credit report tho??? They waited 5 years to put this on my credit report?

So, it looks like this was assigned to the CA and then the OC never updated their file. Now that it's already paid, you'll want to write the CA and try to nicely convince them to either delete it completely or update to something more satisfactory.

For the other CAs, start out by validating the debt. Send them a DV letter and await their response. You want to protect your rights and make sure that if you do owe money, they're the right people to pay.

Since these debts have been sold by the OC, they probably won't want anything to do with you any more. I wouldn't copy them on anything, but after you take care of the debts with the CA you might be able to convince them via a Goodwill letter to remove the charge offs. They don't have to, but it's always worth a shot.

Regarding the Citibank debt, it sounds like the "date open" is incorrect. Dispute it through the CRAs and hope for the best.

So I talked to the OC regarding my medical bill $115 and they called the CA to verify the account has been paid and then called me back. The lady told me the CA tried to update my credit report by removing the account but said it never went through because of an address issue... I don't know if thats a real reason to not have it updated or not but I just said OK and went along with it. They also said they would retry the removal off my credit but it would take 45-90 days. I thought this was something they had to do within a certain period of time? And considering its been 3 months since it's been paid, shouldn't that already have been enough time to get it updated?

And for the CC accounts, can I dispute both the Citi and Chase accounts in the same letter? Or would I have to write a separate dispute letter for each account? Both the open dates and the amounts are incorrect on both accounts so I'm going to dispute both of these before I do anything else.

There's nothing that requires the OC to remove a charge off from your reports after it's been paid. From what you've told me, it sounds like you're really lucky here because the OC actually wants to remove the charge off completely. And yes, changing anything with the CRAs could take up to 90 days. Nothing moves fast with the credit bureaus.

In regards to disputing accounts, I would recommend keeping the disputes separate since you only have 2 to worry about. You want to keep things as simple as possible and make sure they each get the full attention of the bureaus.

That's kind of disappointing it's going to take so long to get cleared off my credit but I guess I can only be thankful that they are deleting the tradeline period. Thanks for all your help so far, I'll repost after I hear back from the CRA's about the disputes.
