You guys are not gonna beleive it. I had 4 things disputed on Aug 1 and 1 thing disputed on Aug 8th. I deceided to call Transunion and see my results today. They told me that the investigation will be over in 45 days from the Aug 1st. I said what. She says Transunion is now using the law on thier side. She says that the FCRA 611 (a) (1) (b) states the they get a 15 day extension if you call and dispte something elese while you still have a investigation ongoing.

That is the craziest thing I have ever heard of. The FCRA states to me that "only if you are calling on the same issue, it states relevant to the reinvestigation"

Am I right or wrong? This is crazy.

I have been through the same thing with them countless times and they claim that if you call with another dispute you are in fact gving them "additional" information so they have 15 more days. Hopefully someone will fight them on this. It is clearly NOT what the FCRA intended when they stated if additional information is given a CRA has 15 additional days.
    TU sucks!

They are full of it. The rule is posted below. What the rule says is that if you give them additional info that is relevant to the ongoing dispute, then they can take an additional 15 days. If you have a dispute ongoing, and call in a different dispute, it does NOT give them an additional 15 days. You guys that are being told this nonsense need to send them a letter with the below rule included.

    § 611. Procedure in case of disputed accuracy [15 U.S.C. § 1681i]

    (a) Reinvestigations of disputed information.

    (1) Reinvestigation required.

    (A) In general. If the completeness or accuracy of any item of information contained in a consumer's file at a consumer reporting agency is disputed by the consumer and the consumer notifies the agency directly of such dispute, the agency shall reinvestigate free of charge and record the current status of the disputed information, or delete the item from the file in accordance with paragraph (5), before the end of the 30-day period beginning on the date on which the agency receives the notice of the dispute from the consumer.

    (B) Extension of period to reinvestigate. Except as provided in subparagraph (C), the 30-day period described in subparagraph (A) may be extended for not more than 15 additional days if the consumer reporting agency receives information from the consumer during that 30-day period that is relevant to the reinvestigation.

    (C) Limitations on extension of period to reinvestigate. Subparagraph (B) shall not apply to any reinvestigation in which, during the 30-day period described in subparagraph (A), the information that is the subject of the reinvestigation is found to be inaccurate or incomplete or the consumer reporting agency determines that the information cannot be verified.
