Good morning all! I'm new here, and thought I'd take a minute to introduce myself. I'm Nikki, and I have moderately bad credit I had a personal situation back in 2000 that caused some blips on my credit report, including one paid charge off. So, I've been losing tons of sleep reading the boards, and I can honestly say it's been the best sleepless week I've spent. I think I may be ready in a week or two to start disputing some stuff. Don't be surprised if I ask for a ton of hand-holding, I'll eventually get my sea legs. Anyway, Hubby and I would like to buy a home in about 2-3years (that's when the army let's us move back to the states) and I figured now would be a good time to clean up our credit reports, before the situation becomes time critical. We've been completely on time with our bills for almost 2 years now (with the exception of a student loan fiasco, which is currently up to date, but showing 2 late payments on the credit report), so I think now would be a good time to start cleaning things up. SO, that's my long winded, round about intro. I look forward to reading more. Nikki
Welcome! If you do a search for "student loans" AND "late payments" you'll find a lot of helpful info. Happy reading!
Welcome! Make sure you read the posts at the top, then ask questions when you don't understand. You'll find lots of help here, as I'm sure you've already figured out.
Thank you all for the warm welcome and most especially for the advice. A quick search proved that there may be a possibility of redemption from student loan purgatory. Expect to be seeing a lot of me over the coming months! Nikki
O.K. this is what I have managed to accomplish so far ... I have sent letters (CMRRR) to all 3 credit reporting agencies requesting deletion of erroneous previous addresses, wrong name variations, as well as an incorrect alternate SSN (where the heck did that come from). I've also used the online dispute forms to dispute as "not mine" a paid charge off. SO, now I have to wait 30 days while they "verify" the information. Am I understanding the process correctly so far? My next step is to send a "goodwill" letter to EdSOuth asking them to remove the late tradelines from over a year ago. WOrst they can do is say no. Hopefully it will work since I've been on-time or early for the last year as well as having paid more than the minimum payment on the account for the last year. Any opinions and advice would be greatly appreciated. Nikki
