    Hello All

I just came across this wonderful forum and have been reading it for a while. Please feel free to point me to any posts I should have read before posting.

    Situation -

    Equifax - 604 , Experian - 599 , Transunion - 597 ( all as per mycreditkeeper.com)

    4 credit cards - total line - $17,000 ( Citi - $10,500, MBNA - $6,000, others - $1,000)

    Balance - Total - $5,306

    Inquiries - Equifax - 0, Experian - 7 , TU - 2

    Negatives -

MBNA card - Once late 60 days (September 2003) ( can I get this off?)

Length of history - 2 years 3 months

Collection - One CO - October 2003 - showing as closed - I paid it off in Jan 2004 , was just $250 due to a cell phone terminated while I was out of the country. Was unaware of the credit specifics then. EQ and EX show it as Omnium Worldwide, and TU shows it as T-Mobile. Can I get this off my reports? Dispute it?

I really want to increase my scores as I have just landed a new job and am looking to buy a car around 6 months from now. I think it will be hard to qualify for any good finance offers with credit like this. New job pays quite well and am certain I will be able to maintain good credit once I have it fixed. Hopefully, will be able to get my wife the house she wants a year from now.

    Please help.
I really need to fix it.

Here is some advice form one Newbie to another. You must pay down the balance of your credit cards that help to increase your score. From what I have read you should not charge more than 30% of the spending limit on the card. As far as your late payment goes dispute it with the CR. You have a 50/50 chance that it will be taken off. Also try to dispute the collections as " not mine". Good Luck.

Dispute the chargeoff with the CRAs as "not mine."

Dispute the late with the CRAs as "never late." It may come off, if not post back and we'll go to the next step.

Your overall utilization doesn't look that bad.
What's your balance on each card (or the percentage of credit used on each card). That will affect your score as well.

I am aware that the usage on my MBNA card is high, around $4800 with $6000 limit. I am about to transfer that balance to the citi card with $10500 limit. This will bring down the utilization on the card. MBNA will be $0 and Citi will be $4800 out of $10,500. I am going to pay off that balance in the next couple of months. I am more concerned about the charge off and the late. So can I dispute these items using the report from mycreditkeeper.com or do I have to order a report directly from each of the CRA's? And do I just use the sample letters from creditnet to dispute these items? Please advice.

Hi, Sorry if I am being too much trouble. Please tell me whether I can just use the report from mycreditkeeper.com or do I have to order new reports from each of the CRA's ? Also, do I use the dispute form on mycreditkeepr or use the sample letters from this forum.
    Thanks in anticipation

I don't know about using the dispute form online. I've always ordered a hard copy. Sometimes it seems like they're different, and the hard copy seems more "official" to me.

As far as the letter goes, keep it simple. Just say something like: I just reviewed my credit report, and I do not recognize this account. Please verify that it is my account or remove it from my report. List the account or accounts you want to dispute.
