Hi I am new at this. I have researched a lot of threads, and read a lot of good information on here in the last three days. Probably read too much to absorb it all. I have a BK7 on my report from 96, and some other debts to tackle. I want to start with validation, and disputing with the CRA's, but am somewhat confused about the whole process. My first validation letter will go out to an attorney's office trying to collect a Cap 1 debt. I just received the CA letter last week and have 30 days to reply (dispute).

Also have a question, if the CA is reporting to all 3 CRA's then I have to send dispute letters to all three CRA's, correct? And the best time to tackle this is about a week after I get my return receipt from the CA? Is there an example letter to send out the CRA's posted here somewhere? Every letter I come across I try to save it and refer back to it for future use.

Can anyone give me sort of an outline on the time frame with links to letters to use and dispute procedures? I don't mind searching but I am a SAHM with two toddlers and my research time is limited....I would appreciate any and all relevant advice. Thanks.

Is there anyone that can give testimony that has been succesful in getting deletions with or without suing?

Not the advice I was needing. The question was about bankruptcy not burger king. Thanks not your humor.

Rather, George the question was about how to go about in the simplest way to credit repair. I mentioned that I had a bankruptcy in 96, but that wasn't the question. Since you don't know I'll keep waiting for someone's reply, or find another board with more friendly helpers.

GET ALL 3 CREDIT REPORTS FIRST!!!

    www.planetfeedback.com works for some

    Write some letters...(US MAIL)

Dispute a "FEW" things on each credit report...(NO MORE THAN 3-4 ITEMS) per report!!!

It will take a while...but you will get it accomplished...

DON'T STRESS THAT YOU CAN'T FIX EVERYTHING IN ONE WEEK OR ONE MONTH OR EVEN ONE YEAR...(unless you only have a few things to fix)

Thank you, I am working on my reports now...got them all. Do you think I should dispute collections first or charge offs on revolving accounts? I know I can't do anything about the bankruptcy. I have about 6 derogatories other than that, 3 collections and 3 charge offs on CC's.

Just pick something and do it...

If you are scarred...PICK ONE OR TWO THINGS AND DISPUTE THEM...

Thanks for that advice. I have one more question for now. I received a letter from a collection attorney on cap 1 but my CR shows it is still being reported by the OC. Do I validate with both? Credit report shows written off as profit/loss. Attorney's letter said interest is still being compounded daily.

Is the Cap One collection related to the BK in 96, or is this something new?

Keep the faith - many here have gotten old BK's off. If you have moved since filing, your first step is to dispute the old address/addresses that were associated with it. This can generally be handled with a phone call to the CRA's. "I never lived there", "that address is incorrect", etc. etc.

This is just a guess, but if the BK was in 96, some of the accounts INCL in the BK are gone, or are very close to being gone because you are close to the 7 yr mark that they can report. (Only the BK can stay for 10 yrs the associated TL's should be gone in 7). This is good news.

If you haven't caught this piece of advice in reading, the number one rule for BK'ers - never admit to a CRA that you filed!

Good luck, and welcome to the board!

    Hi Jlynn,

Thanks for that good advice. I have been hoping to hear from someone over the matter of being new, and being scared to get this started. I am not really scared, but time is limited with a 2 year old and a 3 year old, and I am afraid, I may leave steps out therefore not getting anywhere. I plan on tackling about two at a time.

I found something on my credit report that I don't really understand, I beleive it is TU. It says under consumer statement "Do Not Confuse With Consumers Of Simular Name, Verify All Identification", or something to this matter. I never sent in a statement about that.....what are they doing, and is this affecting my score or what do I need to do in this matter?

Thanks again for your knowledeable help and welcoming me to the board. I enjoy reading different threads, but it requires a lot of time and note taking.

The Cap 1 is a new card that has been in default since 10/2002. There are 3 cards all together that I have not been paying on in over a year, that one and two by Providian. The Cap 1 is trying to collect through an attorney's office in my state but he is not reporting on my CR, it is still being reported by the OC and says written off/ charge off. Providian is on there too, as bad debts.

    Here's my suggestion -

Cap One - that can't wait. You are correct, send out the validation letter to the attorney, send certified mail. As soon as you get the green card back, then dispute with the CRAs. The attorney is already reporting on your reports? How old is this Cap One debt, and what state are you in? Was it included in the BK?

Easiest way to get started - pick out 3-4 of your oldest baddies first (probably from the BK time). Try simple "do not recognize" disputes with the CRA's that are reporting them. Hopefully, being so old they will fall off easily. This gets you MOTIVATED.

You will have to dispute each account with each CRA that is reporting it. You will find that some of your TL's are on all three, while others may report to only one or two, this is normal.
