Hi there.,My name is AMy. I had credit problems in the apst, about 6 years ago., I ahve been timely in payments ever since, but can not get my score above 600. The problem??? Some old problems , which have never appeared before suddenly pooped up. 3 collection acounts. The have several dates and I am confused. i hope you can help me. THese are dates from experian, by the way.
    Okay the first account:
    Balance dat : 05/2002
    Last Activity:m 06/1997
    Date Assigned 09/1999

the sceond:(which is actually the same debt as above, but with yet another recovery agency)
    Balance date: 11/2002
    Last Activity 06/1997
    Date Asigned: 06/1997

    The final one:
    Balance date: 07/2002
    Last Activity: 02/1997
    Date Assigned: 01/1999

My questionis, which of these dates is the one used for the "fall off" point for the CRAs?? I mean if it is the date of last activity i figure it is best to ignore them ,as they should fall offo in a month or so. BUT, if so, shouldnt the final one have fallen off already?? What is a blance date??

I am so confused. Please help me with this.
I ahve been rading and there is so much great info here- thank you!!!!!!!

I am no expert, and you might want to wait for a more knowledgable answer, but I am almost certain that it is the date of last activity.

The date of last activity is the one they use for the fall off point. Yours are 1997 so they will fall of in 2004. It's 7 years. At 6 years and 9 months you can call the CRA and sometimes they'll delete early for you. It's because it costs them money for you to do a dispute and since it's so close they decide to save the money and delete.

They are hurting your score, but being that old it's not as much impact as if they were recent.

If you put them in dispute you'll get a temporary boost of score.

It depends if they are causing you not to get new accounts as to whether to dispute them or not.

Check the SOL for your state too.
