I might have found this site much too late to do myself any good. First Mistake--contracted with a "debt negotiation" company Nov. 2001 (did nothing more than COMPLETELY ruin mine and husband's credit) Second Mistake--Contracted with Lexington Law Firm in May 2002 (still with them--how do I get out of the cycle?!?!?) Third Mistake--negotiated w/2 creditors myself (they took settlement amounts, but still reporting as a paid collection)--Aug. 2002 Fourth Mistake--completely scared to death by Wolpoff & Abramson on 2 MBNA accounts. Gave them all my checking acct info and check numbers for payments for one year (9/2002-9/2003)--still owe them quite a bit for each acct, so they'll be calling soon for check numbers for the next year--both MBNA accounts still reporting as R9 VERY past due Fifth Mistake--again very scared, agreed with Nationwide Credit Inc. to pay off full amt on AMEX card--just paid them off June 2003 but still reporting as paid collection and told that it always will Sixth Mistake (maybe most damaging)--To pay off negotiated accts Aug. 2002, skipped one mortgage payment--Mort company finally redid the mortgage (same 7.5% rate) June 2003--No one will give us a lower rate--we've tried everything In the midst of it all--forced into a 19.9% car loan Oct. 2002 because GMAC lease expired--would only allow us to keep vehicle with $5000 down (couln't do--still owe them over $3k in addition to 19.9% rate)--other vehicle 12.75% rate--No one including People First will refinance Am I beyond help?
I just don't know where to start, so I guess I'll ask about one issue at a time. 1. Concerning Wolpoff & Abramson (aka. EVIL collection agency)--When they call back end of Aug/ beg of Sept. looking for new check numbers for the next year to cover payments on my 2 MBNA accounts, how do I handle them? Have I already screwed myself because they have ALL my checking account info??? I don't have any extra money for one time settlements. History: They sent very official Fedexed documents threatening law suits, etc. last Spring--That's why I caved in and gave them all my info. HELP. . . .
I'm new here too debtchoked. I love that name, but not the reason for it. Breeze gave me this info yesterday. It might scare you, as it has me, but at least you know where you stand with these folks (MBNA) Looky here: http://consumers.creditnet.com/stra...d=185675&sortby=lastpost&sortorder=descending
Wow--Thanks for the info, neomatrix. I can feel for all those people as I understand exactly what they're going through. Since I'm already in so deep, I might as well continue paying Wolpoff & Abramson and leave it at that. I went through hell with them last summer and I don't want a repeat. It just really bothers me that even though I was fairly cooperative with them (I had to be--they scared me to death and had me bawling on the phone more than once!!!), both of my MBNA accounts are still VERY negative listings on both mine and my husband's credit reports. I might try calling W & A since I have been VERY cooperative over the past year and ask for them to report positive info in exchange for my next 12 months of post dated checks. I know that I screwed up by giving them that info last year, but at this point, they already have it. With everything I've read about W & A, maybe I made the right decision by just giving in to them.
I have an MBNA also, around $9000. I was just gonna let it go, but after reading those poor posts, I though better. Luckily I haven't reached chargeoff just yet, and I will call them, when I get brave enough, and try a hardship program with em. I have always paid on time with them since 96, up until recently. I find it amazing that they don't have much compassion when people go thru rough times. Seems they (MBNA) are going tp get their money at all costs. They do give you a few months on reduced, and they do re-age and bring current. Sometimes just not enough. If all else fails, theres always bankruptcy? :-( That'll teach em to make you cry! Unfortunately, there are consquenc. for BK as well.
And good luck on negotiating for the positives!! I really hope they will work with you. Keep me posted, so if I ever get that far, which wouldn't take a lot, then I can learn from you. Seems nobody here has beat those guys.

Sell the cars if you can. Buy something cheap to drive around in. Get on a very tight budget, and take a look at the following link: www.daveramsey.com --Galabar
How about opening an account at a different bank and closing that account when W & A cashes the last check. that gives you the ability to renegotiate the deal.
