I have been reading the board for awhile now and have a few questions. First question, I have a Discover/Smithsonian account that was transfered in September 2001 to a regular Discover account with a new account number. The Discover/Smithsonian account had a 30 day late on 5/2001 and 8/2001 ( I disagree) but now both the old account Smithsonian and the new account number are reporting the lates. Can both report the lates? Question #2: When we moved from CA to MN we closed our Pacific Gas and Electric account and left a forwarding address with them. We recieved one final bill that was sent to our old address. I made 2 payments as it was a large amount. One of the payments apparently never was recieved. Now our credit report it shows as a 120 days late and a collection. I contacted PG&E about this and offered to pay for deletion and explained that we had no idea the second payment was not recieved because we never recieved a bill showing a balance. They had our new address, I sent a letter with the first payment to ensure that they had the new address since the bills were going to the old address and not the new one. I did keep a copy of that. But don't they have to send somethng to let me know there is a balance and that it is going to collections or can they just do that? Any help is greatly appreciated. mom2twinsn3
Sorry this is so late - Regarding #2 - I have heard on this board that PG&E is a real bear to get anything off from. I also think that they handle their own collections (or at least that is how it's showing up on mine!) I think this means that they don't have to follow as many rules. They don't count as a collection agency if they themselves are doing the collecting! I'm gonna try the pay for delete thang myself - I'll let you know how it goes. Cheers, Tom
Regarding #1: They can't show the lates twice, you could dispute as a duplicate. However, I would probably dispute both tradelines as "never late" Also, another hint. If your post goes unanswered for a long period of time. You can reply to it yourself with a comment or *bump* to get it back to the first page.
