Hello to all, I am new to this country and I am trying to establish credit w/o going through the secured crappy credit card services. Does anyone know of a way to start US credit? I did a search on the forum and the posts that was there was over 2 years old.

Try local banks and credit unions, I would not bulk at establishing secured credit to get started, you may just have to go that route for now, and look for a company willing to update to unsecured after 6 months to a year. Will be a work in progress, but there are companies the will eventually report unsecured regardless of starting out secured.

Banks and Credit Unions ought to be a great start, deposit into savings what you borrow, and just keep making monthly payments as agreed for a period of time, then you can repeat and also add credit cards later with these companies.

Just make sure the company you decide to go with, actively reports their accounts to all 3 of the major credit reporting agencies.

The best bank to go with is a secured card from Bank of America... after 6 months to a year, you will be transferred to an unsecured card.

Don't ever be late and don't go over limit

    are you a student?
i have a friend that is from germany and moved to the us for graduate school.
she applied for a citi drivers edge card with a 0 score, and was approved. its much easier to get credit when they know you are a student in the beginning of your credit life.
    good luck

Hi! We were in the same situation when we moved here several years ago. Get a steady job, so you can show you have income coming in, and then join the bank of a friend of yours, who has been with them for awhile. Try to get him to sign as a guarantor for you for a small loan. Our first loan was for like $3,000. Other than that, pay your bills and loan installments on time and you will be fine.
