I am trying to assist my husband in getting his credit repaired. Have a question re: Providian. He got a Providian card over 2 years ago. We paid on it(minimum amount). There were a few times we were late. They ended up selling the card to another company. My husband cancelled the card. The original cl was $300. After selling the card we received a bill saying he owed something like $900. We requested in writing 3 different times a payment history of the card. Were given the run around, said we would have to pay of the printout unless it was a dispute. I sent another letter saying that the payment history was requested because of a dispute and therefore under their own rules they should provide free of charge. Never heard from them again. Now we see on my husband's cr that it has been charged-off in the amount of $1600. Is there anything we can do?
To whom was it sold? From whom did you request payment history? Have you been contacted by a CA? You need to be a little more specific. From $300 to $1600 in less than 4 years is a big jump, especially since you say it was paid on for a time.
