Hi, I am new here. I have been lurking for a couple of weeks and I finally got the 'courage' to post today. I think this site is fantastic and I am eternally grateful to whomever started it! Anyway, My husband and I have pretty horrible credit and I will be posting lots and lots of questions to all the old-timers, but I thought I would at least introduce myself first...then I'll pepper everyone with questions! (LOL!) I think I have a battle and a half on my hands with my credit so I will be ever so thrilled with any advice offered. I'll ask my first question now: We have 3 different CA's that are coming after us for some old bills but I can't see that these CA's are licensed to operate in our state (AZ). I went to the AZ State Banking Commision's website and looked them up and they don't appear in the list of licensed CA's that the dept. updates daily... Should I send the CA's letters and tell them to 'go pound sand' or should I just refer their nasty collection letters to the AZ State Banking Commision along with a completed complaint form? Anyone else in AZ dealing (or dealt) with this issue? Also, it's been over two years since one of the CA's contacted us about the bill (I had shoved the letter in a file of old bills and I just found it again). Should I let sleeping dogs lie in that case? Like I said I have SO many questions and I am so grateful for this place and the awesome advice. TIA!
Hi Turtle - welcome - but - I need to let someone else like maybe LKH or Lizardking answer this one.... but hey - always happy to see other species log on here aarrff - dogman
Hi Turtle. I also am in Az. What ca's are you dealing with? It may be possible they registered under different names. When I had a problem with gulf state credit, I sent a complaint to the state banking dep't. They forwarded my complaint to gulf state and in about 3 weeks gulf state closed their books on the file and removed it from the cra's. But let me know who the ca's are.
Hi, The 4 (I was mistaken before) are: The CBE Group, Inc. from Waterloo, IA Creditrust from Baltmore, MD (These jerks added $625 in fees and 'interest' to so-called original debt.) The Continental Alliance, Inc from Kirkland, WA and Peninsula Credit Bureau Commonwealth Information Services, Inc. from Newport News, VA (Say that 5 times fast!) Do you know anything about these guys? They claim I owe them about a total of $1268 and it will snow in Phoenix before I have that kind of money. LOL! TIA!
Re: Newbie saying "Hi" plus a ? Welcome to the board Turtle! I will let LKH respond to your question.
Re: Newbie saying "Hi" plus a ? Turtle, I have the CBE trying to collect a student loan. I disputed it and eqfx said that it was going to be deleted it still there. I have no idea who they but if any vets know please let us newbies know. Thanks in advance
Re: Newbie saying "Hi" plus a ? Thanks to everyone for the nice welcome. I saw this place highly recommended by another poster on another similar site and I love it here! I have to say that I have been SO impressed with the level of professionalism and intelligence I have seen in the postings here too. Like most adults, I tend to avoid boards where every other word is composed of 4 letters and the only grammar the posters know was married to their 'grandper' before she died. LOL! Anyway, thanks again for the welcome. I will be asking lots of questions about repairing my dreadful credit and I have 'miles to go before I sleep'.
