Hello. I discovered this forum last week and it is truly a blessing. I'm 31 years old, I live in New Jersey..I did some damage to my credit some years ago and am ready to attempt to fix it. I lost my job a few years back and just kind of let everything go and didn't want to face it. I pulled my reports yesterday and it looks like I owe around $5000 which I can afford now. The thing is I don't just want to pay all the balances and then have my credit remain bad. I've been doing some reading on this forum and see that there are letters I should be sending out. I'm just a little confused as to which letters are best for which accounts. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I pulled my reports yesterday March 31st, 2014 and I also opted out yesterday March 31st, 2014. I read that it is good to wait 7 days after opting out before I dispute anything? I also have a bunch of old addresses on there, guessing I should wait to dispute those as well. All of the below I'm aware of except for one. (T-mobile, Capital One and Riveredge Management are mine)... Shiel Medical Labs, I'm not sure what it is. New Jersey's SOL is 6 years. Apologies if I included too much information below. Thank you. Welcome. One general disclaimer, most of us aren't attorneys, nor do we play one on TV... So advice is typically framed as what I would do if it was me... Even when we may forget to frame it that way... The first thing that I would do is check out the SOL for your area. That tells you how long the creditor could seek out a legal remedy for the debt. Different types of accounts have different SOLs... Once that step is done, you can start to come up with a plan of attack. So, it looks like the C1 & Midland accounts were reduced to a judgment. Have you been garnished or making payments on the judgments? Options are more limited on judgments because a court (even in the case of default judgment) is perceived to have determined that the debt is owed. So if you demand validation, all they have to prove is the judgment, not the account that the judgment is based on. The 54 account looks like it may be a lab testing account. It is properly flagged as medical, my quam is that it's under a MARKETING company, that's a unique alias for a CA. Is that enough for it to be a false representation or unconscientious means to try to collect, or reporting false credit information? Does the NRA account have a reported until date? If not, they may have omitted the date of first delinquency, and if so they are in trouble.
Judgment for T-Mobile should fall off next month. Whether the judgment disappears at the court is up to your state law.
