Hi everyone. I have read quite a lot on this board before posting, but could not find any thread that identified my situation. Please help. I basically have no credit, except for a few paid off collections and student loans. I have two mortgage inquiries, but I have not applied for anything. From what I have read that is not uncommon. The kicker is that it was my dad that aplied for a mortgage in my name, without my approval. I want to get the inquiries off, but do I risk getting my dad in trouble if I try?
I don't know exactly what his credit looks like but its awful from what I understand. Multiple BK's, and a business that he closed may be on there too. Given that, probably some credit card and loan debt and definitely a bad mortgage. He was trying to get a new loan before they foreclosed on the current one, I think. I am quite distant from him, we cannot get along so I don't know all the facts.
Well I can think of two routes to take: 1. The inquiries are of little effect especially if they are 6 months or more old. One choice would be to ignore them and they will drop off after two years from the date of inquiry. 2. Unless you signed for them the mortgage company had no pp and you are owed $1000 for each occurance. In this case you may need to prove it was not you that applied for the credit. It is also possible they could go after your dad. In any case an ITS letter may very well get them off your record w/o them going after your dad. In any event good luck.
Maybe you should put a "fraud alert" on all three reports to prevent the opening of unauthorized accounts.
