Hi I'm a newbie. I just signed up yesterday. I have been reading many of the posts here. I am so glad I found this message board. My DH and I are trying to clean up our credit(his first), and many of the things are 8+ years old. I don't know where to start. I know I need to get a new report (I am looking at an old one). Do I dispute them one at a time or can I dispute all the ones that are past the statute of limitations at one time? I will stop here, as I could go on forever. I am a woman of many ??? AnGar
Welcome! Order all three reports and while you are waiting for those, read the Intro posts. You might want to look at the two of yours together, because depending on what action you need to take, it might be easier to kill two birds with one stone. Once you get the CR's then you will have a better idea of what you may or may not need to do. You can do more than one dispute at a time, most believe the magic number is between 4 or 5. I have done 7 in my first one with no problem.
1* Are these Pos or Neg. tradelines or some of both? 2*Are you really talking about SOL or are you talking about past the reporting period?
Great advice from Jlynn. I would add the cavate to read, read and reread the FAQs and other important post before starting. After that formulate your plan. Here are some fo my favorite posts to go along with the FAQs. http://consumers.creditnet.com/stra...threadid=37975&perpage=20&pgnum=&pagenumber=1 http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&postid=125035#post125035 http://consumers.creditnet.com/stra...hreadid=10860&perpage=20&pgnum=1&pagenumber=3 http://consumers.creditnet.com/straighttalk/board/showthread.php?s=&pgnum=1&postid=296552#post296552 I hope this helpful!
Thank you for replying so quickly. I'm glad you said I could probably do more than one at a time. I figure it is going to take enough time as it is. I have also read the sample letters the you could send. Do you recommend changing the wording? just fill in the appropriate info?
Its going to depend on which ones you plan on changing! I personally don't change validation, estoppel letters, etc. but for disputes I have always winged it...
I'm not sure what "tradelines" are. They are negatives from Credit agencys 2 (original delinquency dates are 1. 1994 2. 1995 on this old report and a department store 7years this August.
1*The accounts or debts listed on your reports. 2*I would dispute all neg accounts that are past 7 years old as obsolete at one time no matter how many there are. 3*Dispute this one as obsolete some time in may and it may fall off before Aug. Have you read the 3 Intro threads at the top of each page?
How old is the report you are looking at now? You could be driving yourself crazy over nothing. They may be gone off the reports you need to order.
Jlynn I have never done anything like this before. I have no idea what the CRA or CA are like. What is the likelyhood them taking negative marks off just because they should. Without being asked? I mean, it would be great if they were gone, but I doubt it.
You need new reports if the ones you have are very old because you can't correct todays reports with yesterdays reports. Also there could be stuff in todays fils that weren't on your old reports.
I beg your patience. One more question. What is an estoppel letter? I've read the other letters, but none that were titled estoppel letters. I am off to order my updated reports. AnGar
Don't worry about the estoppel letter just yet. Its in the validation series. You need to take baby steps. Keep reading and reading, it gets less confusing each time you read. It also helped me make better sense of it when I had my reports in front of me, and could SEE what others were writing about. To answer your question about taking things off that they are supposed to. They probably have removed the ones that are past the 7 yrs. If not, thats a relatively simple dispute that they can't argue with.
You are right. It is very confusing. I printed the second and third posts on the top of the list and am reading and reading. Making myself a notebook to go through often. I hope the ones past 7 years are relatively simple to remove. That might take care of most of my report. Maybe some medical bills. Thank you all for your help. AnGar
keep reading, whatever stuff isn't gone when you get your new reports, should disappear with simple cra disputes if they are over seven years old. first things first, understand the difference between a ca and cra!
