First of all, hello to everyone. I've lurked around and read some of the information for some time now and you all seem wise. So here I am, point me in the right direction as I do not know where to start.

    In brief:

Just recently became engaged, fiance and I want to start saving for a house and the wedding. To get a house I need to increase my credit score from the pitiful score I currently have.

I have approx. $5,000 of debt. All accounts except for 2 are in a chrage off status. I have one account states "Paid, Settlement" however it is was paid in full. I have a student loan being reported 3 times on one report negatively. I have two accounts paid in full, closed by credit grantor, But I closed the account. I've done an online "dispute" to the agencies, but they sent a letter saying all were verified.

Where do I start? Fiance bought me a book "Guerilla Guide to Becoming debt Free?", that has samples letters and advice but, I'm just so overwhelmed and confussed with where to start.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, if you need additional information I'll gladly provide it. At this point I have no shame.

Ok, if it were me, I'd write whoever holds your student loan and let them know that "for some reason the TL is being duplicated, please have dup's removed." Next, I'd write to each creditor and ask them to "change the status because..."

I'm not an expert, yet, so, someone else confirm please.
