I've been reading about credit repair, mostly here, for about 6 months. Had a terrible time actually getting my credit reports....but last night, finally, I got to view them via PrivacyGuard. So I am ready to get started on cleaning up the mess. Score was 543...ouch. But could have been worse. A few years ago, I was a crime victim and the whole experience left me in a depression so deep I could not function. By the time I recovered, I was in so deep that I decided to wait out the SOL in my state. My husband and I would like to get a house in the next few years, so I would really like to get to work ASAP.

So I am going to start with a simple "Not Mine" round of disputes with the CRAs to start. Figure I might get lucky.

Anyway, looking at my reports hasn't been much of a surprise. Mostly only what I would have expected. Except an AMEX account. I had a very low balance on the card when I stopped paying. I figured it would show as a chargeoff, sold or assigned or collection....something of that nature.

    But here's how it's listed:

    Account number: XXXXX...
    Acct Type: Open Account
    Acct Statue: Closed
    Monthly Payment: $0
    Date Open: March 1999
    Balance: $80
Terms: (listed as either N/A or 1 month)
    High Balance: $80
    Limit: N/A
    Past Due: $0
    Remarks: Closed by Credit Grantor
Payment status: (Listed as either Pays as Agreed or Current)

There doesn't show any chargeoff or collection activity either....

I used this card only once and never paid the balance. AMEX closed the account.....but is it listed as having nothing past due and "paying as agreed?" I don't know what to make of this account. Should I try to get rid of this listing on my credit report or is it not considered a negative tradeline?

While I've been reading a long time and have gotten a little bit removed from my husband's report, I am not really seasoned at all and just very afraid of doing the wrong thing. So if this question is simplisitc, I apologize. But I thought this would be the place for my answer.

    Thanks.

How funny -- this was almost my exact same first post to this board two years ago.

    My advice? Let it be.
