Hi Everyone, I have been reading posts here for a few days and appreciate all of the info everyone has shared. I filed Chapter 7 on August 8th, my Meeting of Creditors was 2 days ago. I am waiting for my FCNB Mastercard which was approved yesterday. The card is unsecured and has a $300 limit. What other steps do you suggest I take as I begin my long credit building journey? I appreciate any suggestions.
It baffles me that people file for BK and then are so quick to get back in debt? Shouldn't there be a resting period before you get back into the swing of things? Well, my girlfriend filed for BK earlier this year and then low and behold she received an offer through the mail from Providian for a Visa Gold card w/ $500 limit. All she had to do was send them $49. She has the card and has been using it for about 3 months.
RE: Just my opinion Hi Merry... I don't want to discourage you, as you try to rebuild your credit.... but I think you were approved for on of these reasons: a) Your BK is to fresh and hasn't been inserted in your CR(s). b) creditors know that for the next 6 years, you can't file for bankrupcy again. But if I am wrong, then good for you... I recommend applying for a Cap1 or Providian card (but make sure 3-4 months past before you apply per card). Anyone else on this board is welcome to comment.
RE: Just my opinion Larry, FCNB did the same for me. Before my BK was even discharged, I received a letter from them (with the BK case # on it), offering me a $1000 unsecured Visa. This was 15 months ago, and I've had no problems with FCNB, other than they are very conservative with their increases.
