Hi everyone, Ten days ago, I posted a message about my husband receiving a call at work from an "attorney" requesting payment on an old debt from 1997 for Citibank. The first person he talked said something about a settlement of the debt. My husband was confused and then the attorney got on the line. After a few minutes, my husband began to figure out what was going on and requested that the information be sent to him in writing. The attorney stated he would send a demand letter. No letter ever came. The attorney called back again on Friday of last week. My husband told him he still had not received anything. The attorney told him I'll give it one more day and also faxed a verification of employment request directed to the manager of his office. Someone placed it on my husband's desk instead. We did receive a letter from a ca offering a settlement for less than 50%. My husband called and accepted (he wants this done and over with). Today this attorney called again. My husband stated he had spoken to someone and had made an arrangement to pay. The attorney stated he did not know who he had talked to (could a ca be collecting this as well?). He then got nasty with my husband asking him when this would be taken care of. My husband told him this week but he got nastier and basically told him that answer was too vague and that perhaps "you are lying about making payment" and that maybe he will just "go ahead and serve him". My husband told him to do whatever he needed to do. I did a reverse number lookup and a yellow pages search on this so-called attorney but came up with nothing (the letterhead on the fax shows a San Diego address). My husband said this guy sounded like a clown, not very professional at all. What should our next step be? Should we send a certified letter to this attorney asking for a demand letter sent via certified mail? I don't think he really sent it and is trying to intimidate us. Or should we send a validation letter? Please advise. Thanks, CR
