I have a Nextcard credit card. Back in October they went out of business. I still have a balance with them that I am paying monthly on. the problem is that it's showing on my credit reports twice with 2 different account numbers. One says that the account is clsed per consumer request, the other says that the account was aacquired by RTC/FDIC. Why are they shoing it twice? Do they have the right to do that? What can I do to fix it? LAurie
You definitely want to dispute it as a duplicate account. It would be best if the "acquired by" tradeline is removed rather than the "closed at consumer's request" tradeline if you can manage it. It probably won't make much of a difference to your credit scores, but it would be the most accurate reporting.
