My nextcard account is showing open/never late with a balance on all three credit reports. I paid off the account right about when it was closed. I don't mind the account being listed as open but I would like to have the account listed with a zero balance. I am thinking of disputing the account with all three major CRA's to have the balance listed as zero.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any thoughts?

Our Nextcards still show open on our reports also. We ran zero balances the last couple of months so no problem for us. If I had a small balance, I would leave it alone because if you dispute, the account will go away.

    OOOPS...

I disputed it on EXPERIAN AND EQUIFAX...

    BALANCE $0
    PAID/NEVER LATE
    "ACCOUNT CLOSED BY CONSUMER"

    If it goes...TOO BAD~~~SO SAD.

You may be right but the account was only 12 months old and I now have 4 Visa cards, 2 store cards, and one Amex gold without the Nextcard so I have plenty of accounts in good standing. The next card is at less than 15% utilization but I fear that having any balance on it will hurt my score more than the account is worth.

You did good to have it at a zero balance before it closed. This should be a lesson for others. If you have a card that belongs to a company that goes bankrupt, pay it off and sock drawer it. Even though in reality the card is goon, the CL is on your reports.

I just called next card customer service. To get through I put in my closed credit card number and pressed 0 to get a menu and took the option for a lost or stolen credit card to get to a real human.

She verified my balance as being at zero and transferred me to another customer service rep. He said that they will report my card as closed at consumers request with a zero balance within 60 days.

If you dispute the account off your credit reports, hopefully it will reappear as a positive account when Next card's computers update.
