Well, in my statement today I received a blank check from NextCard, good for any amount over $100 and up to my CL. It can be used for purchases or balance transfers, with no transaction fee. Fine print says my purchase APR will be used as long as I keep the account in good standing. It is good until August 2, 2001. I've only had the account since March. I plan to call in July and request an APR decrease and CL increase, and if I am successful I may use it. So far, I am satisfied with NextCard. BTW, I used my Providian check for $1000 at 16.9, socked the money in my interest-bearing checking account, and am transferring the $1000 to a 2.9% 9-month teaser rate with Citi Platinum Select. Will only pay one month Providian rate on the amount. I don't need the money for anything right now, but I anticipate goodies from Providian in the next month or two ;D.
Greyfox: Please let us know your results when you ask Nextcard for a CL increase and Interest decrease. I notice you are trying it after four months. They told me to wait six months, but another poster here said he was told four months. As to your BT. My Next card has a $4000 credit limit, but the amount available for cash is a lot less. My question is, do they consider a BT a cash advance, or would I be able to do a BT for up to my total credit limit?
Balance transfers are not limited by your cash line. You can transfer any amt. up to your available purchase limit and the APR is the same as purchases.
Thanks Greyfox! By all means keep us updated on your forthcoming July phone call. I got my $6500 Nextcard in April.
