I have 3 items on Equifax that are incorrect. All 3 accounts have last activity dates of 2004 and all 3 were discharged in bankruptcy 3 years ago. I sent dispute letters and yesterday received a response from Equifax. They sent a generic "it looks like you are using a credit repair service.....yada yada yada". They also had a long printout enclosed which warned me that "most companies do not keep records over 24 months and disputing a 30 day late might cause the account to be purged thus resulting in a drop in FICO score etc". *LOL* The letter also stated that they would verify the information once and then it would be up to me to contact the creditor and get it straightened out etc*LOL*
Disputing a 30 day late might cause the account to be purged thus resulting in a drop in FICO =================== Disputing lates can delete the account.
*LOL* I wasn't disputing a late...just several accounts that were listed as having recent activity(Jan 2004) which would affect the roll off dates that are coming around(April 2005). I thought it was funny that Equifax would send out a generic letter like that in response to a dispute. The text sounded "friendly" but it came across (to me anyway) as a pitiful attempt at threatening me.
